it was launched as Wilmington Cab Company. United Checker started with just a
few vehicles in the 1930’s, but quickly grew as the need for transportation
soared with the influx of transient servicemen during World War II.
Today, United Checker Cab is one of 9 companies franchised to operate in the
City of Los Angeles, and the ONLY company whose primary service area includes
the Port of Los Angeles, San Pedro, Harbor City and Wilmington. With 70 cabs in
its fleet, United Checker Cab provides quick, reliable, and professional
service to these areas. All of our drivers are trained on the geography of the
area as well as the art of customer service. Our vehicles are all late model
sedans or minivans, and receive frequent inspections to ensure safety. In
addition, our vehicles are dispatched through a state-of-the-art Global
Positioning Satellite (GPS) system, guaranteeing the shortest wait times for
our passengers.
Unlike shuttle van companies that charge on a per person basis, our rates are very
affordable, and are the same up to 7 passengers. Thus, anytime two or more passengers
are riding to the same destination, our taxis are the most affordable option. We
